Open the Windows 3.1 File Manager and select Run. Depending on your drive letter, type b:\setup or a:\setup Installation for Windows 95: Insert the Lasercom 3.5 disk into your disk drive. Open the Windows 95 icon labeled My Computer, and then open the 3.5 drive icon. Double-click on Setup.exe Create a Shortcut of the Lasercom program by clicking ONCE on the Lasercom program icon (not the folder), and from the File menu, Create Shortcut. In the same manner, create a shortcut for your word processing program. Place both shortcuts on the Windows 95 screen in a convenient location. You will open transferred PC5 files by dragging and dropping them on the shortcut of your word processor. You can also create a shortcut of a spreadsheet program if you will be transferring spreadsheet files. Using Lasercom: The Lasercom translators and settings are preset. You may need to change the COM port setting to correspond to the COM port that you are using. If your computer’s COM ports are not labeled, you may have to experiment with different selections. The PC5’s settings are preset, however, if you experience file-transfer problems, you should change the following setting: From the PC5’s Main Menu, select G, 2, 2. Press Enter 3 times and change the Handshake setting to DTR/DSR by pressing the Down Arrow key once. Press Enter. To start the file-transfer, click the Connect button, and follow the on-screen directions. On the PC5, you may select Word Processing, or Other files (Database, Spreadsheet, etc.). After selecting Word Processor, you may select a single file, or by scrolling up once, select All word processing files. The transferred file will appear in the right-hand dialog box. Before clicking the Save button, select in the left-hand dialog box the location where you want to save the file, i.e. the Download folder. Exit Lasercom by clicking the Done button. If you are using Windows 3.1, open the file by opening your word processing program and from its File menu, open (or insert) the transferred PC5 file. If you are using Windows 95, open the file by simply dragging the PC5 file from its current location, and drop it on the Shortcut to your word processor. You can send files from your desktop to the PC5 by changing the direction of the arrow in the upper Direction box. But be sure to save the file as a .txt file in your word processor, before attempting to transfer the file. This Beta release of the Lasercom, (5/27/97), does not yet support the PC5’s foreign language accents, nor any formatting done on the PC5. This will soon be supported by an rtf translator.
